Maya sticks are tree parts with a high natural resin content, fatwood, which is useful for effortlessly igniting your fire. Because these pieces of wood have a high resin content, they ignite very quickly and fiercely!
The Mayans already used natural fuel as candles and lighters. The small wood pieces have a high resin content that burns easier and hotter than paper, wax and
"normal" kindling wood.
To start a fire in nature, simply use the back of your knife to scrape a few chips and scrapings from the Tinderstick and light it with a lighter or firesteel.
Fatwood is a piece of tree wood with a very high resin content. The trees collect resin and concentrate the resin in the core, roots and stumps.
You can use the sticks as a whole, or you can scrape them off and use the scrapings as initial tinder. Fatwood retains its flammable properties, even when the sticks have become wet. This makes it a very reliable natural tinder.
These pieces were picked by hand and then packaged.
